What Should We be Doing?

For years now I have heard lots of talk about

"What is God's Purpose in Your Life?"

or

"What is God's Purpose for you?"

Often I think that this is directed more at women than at men because of the fact that

we might be "stay at home mums"!

or

 we might be "housewives"!

or

we might be sitting in our church wondering "what our role is"!

I think that we need to remember two things
when we are tempted to start listening to or reading
what someone else has to say
about our role or our purpose in life.

FIRSTLY

The Westminster Shorter Catechism
No. 1.

Q. What is the chief end of man?

A. Man's chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.

SECONDLY

The verse we were given to memorize for

When we focus on God and what he has instructed for all of us,

when we are rejoicing in our Salvation,

when we are in constant communion with Him,

when we can see our way to be thankful to Him for all He does for us each day;

other things will fall into place.

Then we will know

when something is right for us to do

or

when we should say yes to the
specific, unique things
 God has for us.

So we are left with two questions:

What should You & I be Doing?

&

Are we willing to go back to His instructions and focus on Him first?

  1. "Man's chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever." I've always felt such peace in these words. It keeps things simple and refocuses all my busyness into worship. Thank you for the reminder.

    1. Yes the simplicity is so important yet we so often try to make it all more complicated. Thanks for dropping in Beth

  2. Well this was just a beautiful direct message for me tonight! Thank you for that Sandra. Sometimes we need to be reminded of the simple, most basic reality. I love the simplicity of my chief, main purpose- it cuts to the chase. Completely trims the fat, so to speak. Glorify God, and enjoy Him forever. Perfect perspective. Perfect reality check.

  4. I constantly, if nothing else, give thanks to the Lord. He is all that counts and can be trusted in our world to care for us and break into the hearts of others. YEP, I count on HIM!! Love many, but HE IS IT!!!

  7. Oh, I love this, especially the first one. Our purpose is to glorify Him. Everything good comes out of that. Thanks for linking up today.

  8. I liked this! We should first be praising and worshiping God and the rest will fall into place for our life.

  9. I think the key here is first. Too many times God gets pushed until last. We live lives that are too busy when we can't put Him first. ~Pamela

    1. So true, we always think I'll just get that done and then there will be time for God but there is always something else to be done.

  10. Yes, Sandra-- that is our first and foremost call on life. To worship Him and find joy in everything we do! Thanks for sharing this over at #EverydayJesus.
