10 Bible Verses of Encouragement about God's Blessings

We all need encouragement and the best place to go is to the Bible.

In this blog Post I have tried to gather some Bible passages or Bible verses which will encourage us all around the topic of God's Blessings.

I do believe that we should not just grab a verse and read it on its own but we should always lift our bibles and read a passage of scripture to make sure that we know the real meaning and context of each of the verses we are putting our trust in.

I pray that you will do the same and only use this list to guide you as to where you may find help.

So here are 10 Bible verses or short passages for us to turn to in times when we need to be encouraged to think about
Blessings

1.   Numbers 6 v 24-26

When I think of a Godly blessing this is the one that comes to mind as I have great memories of singing this in the church I grew up in each time a child was baptized.

"The Lord bless you and keep you;
the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you.
The Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace."

2.   Psalm 1 v 1

Blessing comes when we are upright in heart, mind and action.

"Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly,
nor standeth in the way of sinners,
nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

But his delight is in the law of the Lord;
and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water,
that bringeth forth his fruit in his season;
his leaf also shall not wither;
and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper."

3.   Ephesians 1 v 3

What more could we want but to be blessed by God and be able to praise and honour Him.

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ."

4.   Psalm 34 v 8

Trusting in God leads to blessing.

“Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good;                       Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!

5.   John 20 v 29

We have not seen Jesus in person but we must remember that we are not any less blessed because of this.

"Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed."

6.   1 Peter 3 v 9

Receiving blessing and blessing others goes hand in hand.

"Finally all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous; not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing."

7.   2 Corinthians 9 v 8

We are not just blessed to receive something for ourselves but to know the blessing of being in the position to bless others as well.

"And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work."

8.   Psalm 29 v 11

Who is greater than the Lord to bless us

"The Lord sat enthroned at the flood,                                                            and the Lord sits as King forever.                                                              The Lord will give strength to His people;                                         the Lord will bless His people with peace."

9.   Isaiah 30 v 18

The Lord is the one who determines when and how He blesses us

"And therefore will the Lord wait, that He may be gracious to you, and therefore will He be exalted, that He may have mercy upon you: for the Lord is a God of judgement: blessed are all they that wait for Him."

10.   Psalm 32 v 1

On a final note the greatest blessing of all that is freely given
   to us - sins forgiven

"Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven,
whose sin is covered."

Sunday

Sunday Scripture - Psalm 34 v 1

Sunday Scripture is just simply a thought or two on a Bible verse that may have struck me afresh or maybe for the first time or has always been special to me.

Today I am looking at Psalm 34 v 1

This verse happens to be one of my favourite verses but I am not focusing on it today for that reason.

Today I have chosen this verse because it chose me; I woke up with this verse on my lips this morning and so I want to share it with you all.

I have mentioned this Psalm briefly in a previous Sunday Scripture Post in July this year but it was not the main focus of my post that time however if any of my church friends are reading this it may be of interest to them to read it as well.

I also wrote a Pondering the Psalms Post on this Psalm 3 years ago but in that case it was an overview of the whole Psalm but you may like to read it as well.

Today this verse kept repeating over and over in my head as I lay in bed and it impressed on me that no matter where I am this can be true for me.  Oh I have thought that at times before but normally I am thinking about the necessity of praising the Lord continually.

Today I'm on this other train of thought

Wherever we are this can be true for us,

whatever situation we are in this can be true for us,

whatever frame of mind we are in this can STILL be true for us.

Of course no matter where or when or in whatever frame of mind we are we must always keep any verse in it's context so let's consider the first 10 verses.

Psalm 34 v 1-10
I will bless the Lord at all times;
His praise shall continually be in my mouth.
My soul shall make its boast in the Lord;
The humble shall hear of it and be glad.
Oh, magnify the Lord with me,
And let us exalt His name together.
sought the Lord, and He heard me,
And delivered me from all my fears.
They looked to Him and were radiant,
And their faces were not ashamed.
This poor man cried out, and the Lord heard him,
And saved him out of all his troubles.
The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him,
And delivers them.
Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good;
Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!
Oh, fear the Lord, you His saints!
There is no want to those who fear Him.
10 The young lions lack and suffer hunger;
But those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing.

As I was lying in bed thinking on this first verse two other verses joined my thoughts

which is of course the third verse of the Psalm.

As good as it is to Bless the Lord on our own as our personal act of worship it is also good to do so with others who love and trust Him too.  As we exhibit the right behavour of speaking verse 1 and then acting on what we have said and keeping our word others will be heartened and encouraged and there will be that bond between us as well as our bond with God.

And then

the 8th verse

Here we go that step further and make a plea to others to step out in faith and trust God, test His Word and find that it is True and He will Bless us as He has already promised in His Word.

In this Psalm we see how we go through from making a commitment to Bless the Lord ourselves, to encouraging others to do the same and then being an example and witness to others that they can trust Him too and all of us see the

Blessing and Goodness of God.

Pondering the Psalms - Psalm 67

Each Sunday I am going to choose a Psalm and write down some brief thoughts on  it.

Today I'm looking at Psalm 67

This is another short Psalm

For me this Psalm falls into four parts:

V. 1
A Blessing

V. 2
An Effect

V. 3-6
A Song of Praise

V. 7
A Result

A Blessing.
The mercy of God shown to us is a great blessing.
The kindness and love of God adds to that.
Everything is contained in His Grace to us, blessings to us and His love shining on us
Notice the Selah - so we stop and ponder here on this verse especially.

An Effect.
Blessing others brings the goodness and stability of God's love upon the world.
As He shines on us we will shine to the world so they will see His love through our love for them.

A Song of Praise.
Everyone should Praise God.
How can we not Praise Him when we are thankful for all His Blessings to us.
We should praise Him for all that He is and how He blesses us.
God's Righteous deeds should bring gladness & joy throughout the world.
Through our Praise of God others will come to know Him and Praise Him too.
As people turn to the true God in Praise, His Blessings will flow.

A Result.
Such a blessing to be poured out by God that all the world will know the effects of this and will know that it is the hand of God.

It is important we remember what blessing means.

It is the bestowing of
God's favour and protection upon someone.

What more could we ask for?

What else could we possibly ask for our broken world.

Pondering the Psalms - Psalm 133

Each Sunday I choose a Psalm and write down some brief thoughts on it.

Today I'm looking at Psalm 133

This is quite a short Psalm but very important to take note of God's command here.

This Psalm falls into three parts:

V. 1
This immediately demands our attention with the word "Behold"

V. 2
First picture to give a description of us dwelling together in unity.

V. 3
Second picture to give a description of us dwelling together in unity.

Behold how good and pleasant it is when people dwell together in unity.
Here is the statement that his short Psalm is all about.
The adjectives "good" and "pleasant" are used here to focus us in with easy, clear understanding and no-one could possible say they would not be happy in a good and pleasant situation.

First Description.
Another adjective "precious" is used here to describe the oil on Aaron which signifies an anointing.
So the dwelling together in unity will be anointed.

Second Description.
This illustration of the dew on the mountains reminds us that the blessing will be a daily miracle just as God provides the land with dew daily.

Life can be good and pleasant.

It is important to remember that
none of this
can be taken for granted.

We need to be dwelling in unity
and that takes a conscious effort because the devil will just love to throw in those small but annoying hurts to dissolve the unity of the believers.

Pondering the Psalms - Psalm 3

Each Sunday I am going to choose a Psalm and write down some brief thoughts on it.

Today I'm looking at Psalm 3

This is one of those Psalms which start out Down and end up Up, if you know what I mean.

This Psalm seems to fall into 4 parts:

V. 1-2
So much Opposition
So many not believing in God.

V. 3-4
God is there to protect
God is there to be our glory
God is there to lift up our heads
God is there to answer us in our cry of need

V. 5-6
God gives us rest
God keeps us in the midst of opposition

V. 7-8
God is able to defeat the enemy
God is the real deliverer

3 times in this Psalm we have the word Selah.

Selah is not just there to be dismissed,
it is there to make us

stop and ponder

because it is advising us to pause and think carefully about what has been said.

Most notably it is there at the end after verse 8.

God's Blessing is upon His people!

Starts with a Tone of Despondency
Because of the people who do not believe in God and are against David.

Goes on to the knowledge David has of Who God is
God is the giver of hope, confidence, lifting from depression; the protector and carer for our needs and the one who is due all glory but also can restore David's glory as King.

Then the recognition of the peace & rest available in God
David does not need to fear because he knows to leave it to God who is caring for him through it all.

Ending in the Jubilant Proclamation of what our God can do!
A Call for deliverance because David knows God is the real deliverer and He provides the Blessing.

God's Blessing is upon His People!

So let's be confident and remember to keep going through everything because God is with us, listening and answering our prayers.  He is protecting us, giving us peace, and He is able to take care of everything.

Then we will rejoice in His Deliverance and Blessing.    SELAH

It's God's Love #3

Welcome back to this new Sunday Series.

There will be a simple, short post each week
consisting of a Bible Verse around the topic of
God's Love and I would be very pleased if you
would join me each Sunday.

When Paul is writing to the Corinthians he obviously thinks something is important and needs to be said as the finishing note for the end of his letter.

2 Corinthians 13:14

He exhorts them to pay attention to how they should live

Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.

BUT

he is not finished yet

He then leaves them with a great blessing

Love of God.

Grace of Jesus.

Fellowship of the Holy Spirit.

Be with us all.

AMEN - So be it.
