Forty Winks - A Dose of Encouragement 2

One Sunday afternoon we went to visit Fred’s aunt in hospital.

As we were sitting chatting Fred’s uncle nodded off to sleep for a few minutes,  later that afternoon his dad nodded off sitting in our house and in the early evening Fred himself nodded off.

Does it run in the family or what?  Well I remember when my dad used to nod off on occasions too, so is it a “Man” thing?

We usually laugh about it but sometimes I get annoyed at Fred because I don’t think I’m that boring really.

The next morning when I sat down to read my bible, I found I had got to Psalm 121.  Well because it’s rather well known I immediately thought I’ll read this one quickly and get on to the next one.

However, verses 3 & 4 made me sit up and take notice.  It says God will neither

slumber nor sleep

and I of course thought back to the day before.  This was now much more meaningful because suddenly I felt that I had the proof that I’m not boring to God, He is always interested in what I’m doing and is always listening and attentive to my needs and fears and anything else I’m thinking about.

We may sometimes think things are boring or uneventful or going on the same, day after day, but God doesn’t.  He doesn't find us boring because He loves us.

So remember that you, yes you are loved by God and you are so important to Him that

He isn’t nodding off at any moment at all.

I am so thankful that God doesn't slumber or sleep, are you?

Have you read Psalm 121 recently?
If not maybe you could just take a little moment to read it now and be encouraged.

Each Friday I will be doing a "Housework/Funwork" spot so why not drop in regularly and we can encourage each other.

  1. Sandra I like that thought God doesn't find me boring! I had never thought about that before.

When I read those verses I love to think that I can sleep knowing God is in the watchtower and there is no chance He will nod off and let the enemy creep in unawares.

  4. It may be a man thing if you look at our family gatherings... I am so thankful He is always alert to our needs and watches over us, never missing a beat of our heart or a desire of our emotions. It's great to know when I am sleeping he is on guard. What security we have in this truth! Thanks for sharing.

  5. You have shared one of my favorite psalms :) It's wonderful to think that God does not find us boring. I am so grateful that everything about us is of interest to Him. His desire is to be included in every part of our day. A great thought for sure! I visited from the Titus 2 Tues. linkup. Blessings!

  8. I'm just so glad He's always on alert and sending His workers out and about for us... angels, for instance... to keep us in the place He has called us to be. All that counts. Good thinking, sharing, on your part.

  10. This was perfect! While we may sometimes doze off and sleep on opportunities that He places in our path, God is faithful and just to prepare the way for us in advance and keep watch even when we doze off. Awesome reminder!

  13. Hi Sandra. Such an encouraging post that calls us back to God's heart. He is unfailingly interested in us, what's going on in our lives, and how we are dealing with it all. Love how a familiar verse can suddenly 'come alive' in a new way as God draws our attention to it. Good to see you are also a participant in #coffeeforyourheart as well as #essentialfridays. Great to meet you! :) x

  14. This is a lovely post! I have experienced the man thing of dropping off to sleep too! Mind you I have a reputation for falling asleep in the cinema or theatre if it's after 8pm so maybe I shouldn't talk! :-)

I too have been encouraged by God about how He delights in me when I have felt insecure about whether other people find me interesting. So encouraging!

Thanks for sharing at Essential Fridays.

  18. Thank you for sharing with us here at "Tell Me a Story." Yes, I believe the nodding off is a Man thing, but I am so glad that God does not sleep or take a nap either. He is truely interested in us all even the nodding men who take their 40 winks

  20. I am coming to learn about sitting under His shade that he talks about in Psalm 121. I believe it must be a man thing - this falling asleep at the drop of a hat. I've told my sons they'll know it's the right girl when they talk and they fall asleep - LOL. I am so glad God doesn't fall asleep when I talk to Him:) Wonderful message delivery!!

I only recently discovered the Playdates and think it is a lovely picture of us on our own with God and the fun we can have. Noticed on Google + that your husband and boys are all involved in worship, same with us and that's a great thing for the family.
