Reading Through the Bible - NAHUM

Some Books of the bible are very short and some are very long but this one is one of the shortest.

34th book of the OT
34th book of the Bible

It starts with the Greatness of God

and continues with the Goodness of God.

It is always good to be reminded of the attributes of God.

What is it?

The Book of Nahum is one of the Minor Prophets in the Old Testament which means it is Prophecy.

How Long is it?

It has 3 chapters.

When was it Written?

It is generally thought to have been written in 650 BC

Who Wrote it?

The second part of the very first verse tells us who Nahum was

"The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite."

Presumably this word "Elkoshite" refers to his birthplace or homeplace.

Bible Gateway tells us the following

"It prob. refers to a place, but if so, the place is unknown."

Who was it about?

It was written about the people of Ninevah as we see in
 chapter 2 verse 8:

"Though Nineveh of old was like a pool of water,
Now they flee away."

Why was it Written?

It was written to tell of God's judgement on Ninevah the capital of Assyria.
The same city that Jonah had been sent to and the people repented but later they had gone back to their old ways.

The Overview Bible  tells us the following

"Nahum foretells of God’s judgment on Nineveh, the capital of Assyria."

which is stated in the first part of the first verse

"Teach Sunday School" tells us the following

"... almost exclusively focuses on God's pending judgement against Nineveh .....the nation that had invaded and destroyed the Northern Kingdom of Israel nearly a hundred years earlier."

What structure does this book take?

The Overview Bible  gives us a quick outline

  1. The Lord: Nineveh’s vengeful enemy (Nah 1)
  2. The siege of Nineveh (Nah 2)
  3. The inevitable judgment of God (Nah 3)

What is important to take away from this book?

The view of the nature of God in chapter 1 v 3

What other books of the Bible have something in common to Nahum?

  • Jonah also prophesied about Nineveh
  • Obadiah was also written to a foreign country

How does it end?

With a direct warning to the King of Assyria in chapter 3 v 18

    "Your shepherds slumber, O king of Assyria;
Your nobles rest in the dust.
Your people are scattered on the mountains,
     And no one gathers them."

Sunday Scripture - Ephesians 4 v 2

Sunday Scripture is just simply a thought or two on a Bible verse that may have struck me afresh or maybe for the first time or has always been special to me.

Today I am looking at Ephesians 4 v 2

 Today's verse talks about

                                                   and love.

Such a lot of virtues to think on and try to put into action.

Can we do this by ourselves?

I don't think so.

I believe we need God's help to provide the lowliness, meekness, longsuffering, and love in our lives because they are not part of our human nature.

With His help we will be able to love others more like He loves them.

With His help we will come to the point where we will be able to

forbear one another in love

because that means to be patient with one another, have self-control in situations with each other, show restraint and tolerance in words and actions which is only possible through truly loving someone.

As always I like to make sure we are taking this verse in context so let's read the first 6 verses of this chapter

I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;
Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

From this we can see that the theme here is unity, there should be no strife, no aggression, no impatience, etc. as we walk in the Spirit together and it is all because of love, the love that we all have received and the love which we are called to show to others - His love flowing through us.

It's Holiday time

          and the gardens are blooming

so I chose a flower to focus on

when I was making a graphic for today's verse

Have you ever decided to ask God to help you grow these virtues in your life by the work of
the Holy Spirit?

Have you ever decided to ask God to help you love others as He loves them?

This is an action on our part that God has told us we must do

we really need God's help because we cannot love others without it,

and we certainly cannot stand by them through everything without it.

Let's think on this as we go through this week.

Christian Songs for Kids - God is So Good

Do you find it hard to get visuals and recordings for different kids songs?

I have always found this a problem so I am now sharing songs that I have used with children providing you with

(Powerpoint or Picture or details of how you can make one)

(chords also available)

(mp3 or video to learn the song)

Then if you would like to download the visual of the song there will be a link provided to my creation, or I will direct you to where else you can find it.

This month I am taking the theme of

The Attributes of God

The song I have chosen is

God is so Good

This is a song that is so very simple but so full of the truth and gives the Gospel in a nutshell.

I like to use this song to reinforce about the Goodness of God to us in that He has made the only provision He could to forgive our sins, taking them away and leaving us free from the captivity of sin. Then draw out from the children about God giving us Jesus, His only Son to take our sins on Himself and suffer and die instead of us.

I would like to thank Phillip Martin for the free artwork he provides for projects
like this you can find his many other pics at

God is So Good

God is so Good
God is so Good
God is so Good
He's so Good to me.

He took my Sin
He took my Sin
He took my Sin
He's so Good to me.

Now I am Free
Now I am Free
Now I am Free
He's so Good to me.

God is so Good
He took my Sin
Now I am Free
He's so Good to me.

For this song we normally just clap all the way through.

My husband and I have now added several videos of KIDS SONGS to his You Tube Channel
Apostolic Worship one of which is a version of this song so I have included it here as well.
Please feel free to visit our KIDS SONG Playlist at Apostolic Worship where you use any of these songs to help you at home or church or school as you teach the children more about God.

I believe the Words (of the first verse at least) are by Velna A. Ledin
There appear to be many variations of the other verses of which the authors are unknown.
More information can be found HERE

I Hope you enjoy the song and this is a help to you.
